Verbal Similarities in the Qur'anic Readings

Abstract

This study, entitled Verbal Similarities in the Qur'anic Readings, aims to review the historical development of verbal similarities in the Qur'anic readings, examine selected applied examples, and highlight some of the governing principles related to this field. The study adopts the descriptive-analytical approach.

The significance of this study lies in its close connection with the Noble Qur'an, the most honored of all revealed books. It also serves as a useful aid—by the grace of Allah—in helping memorizers of the Qur'an master verses that exhibit verbal similarities across the Qur'anic readings.

The study consists of an introduction and two main sections. The first provides a brief introduction to the discipline of verbal similarities and includes four subsections. The second examines verbal similarities in the Qur'anic readings and comprises two subsections. The study concludes with the main findings and recommendations.

Among the principal findings are that the discipline of verbal similarities in the Qur'an originated with the Qur'an reciters, who developed it to facilitate the accurate memorization and preservation of the Qur'an. The study also found that works on the Qur'anic readings contain numerous examples of verbal similarities, although detailed explanations of these similarities are relatively rare. The study recommends further research on the interpretive analysis of verbal similarities found in the literature of the Qur'anic readings, as this field highlights an important aspect of the miraculous nature of the Qur'anic readings.
