Issues Inferred from the Biographies of the Ten Quranic Reciters and Their Narrators: An Inductive, Analytical, and Descriptive Study

Abstract

This study aims to collect and organize the scattered issues found in the biographies of the ten Quranic reciters and their narrators, with the aim of facilitating access to them and bringing them together in one place, while drawing the reader’s attention to such issues. The study is entitled Issues Inferred from the Biographies of the Ten Quranic Reciters and Their Narrators and adopts an inductive, analytical, and descriptive approach. It is based primarily on Maʿrifat al-Qurrāʾ al-Kibār by al-Dhahabi and Ghāyat al-Nihāyah fī Ṭabaqāt al-Qurrāʾ by Ibn al-Jazari. The study consists of an introduction, two sections, a conclusion, and an index of sources. The first section addresses the accounts of the ten Quranic reciters and their narrators, while the second examines the sciences and issues mentioned in their biographies.

The study reached several significant conclusions, including the following:

1. There are 24 issues related to the accounts of the reciters and narrators, while the scholarly issues inferred from their biographies amount to 11.


2. Presenting biographies in the form of issues provides a methodological approach that contributes to deeper understanding and more precise analysis.


3. These issues reveal scholarly corrections to some information that was mistakenly attributed to the reciters and their narrators in biographical works.


4. The study of the lives of scholars in works on ṭabaqāt and biographies can be structured according to an issue-based approach to facilitate understanding and make the material more accessible.

The study recommends several areas for further research, including:

1. Studying biographical and ṭabaqāt works and analyzing their scholarly benefits in the form of independent issues or topics.


2. Studying the corrected issues identified by Imām al-Dhahabi and Ibn al-Jazari.


3. Studying family and Quranic recitation, and the influence of family relationships on the transmission of Quranic recitation through biographical accounts.


4. Studying the impact of the Noble Quran on the formation of the personalities of Quranic reciters.
