Abstract
Abstract
This study presents a critical edition and scholarly study of a work on Tajwid entitled Bidayat al-Qari al-Labib wa Hidayat al-Tifl al-Najib fi al-Tajwid wa al-Marsum, by the renowned scholar in jurisprudence, Arabic language, and Qur’anic recitations, Imam Nur al-Din Abu al-Hasan Ali al-Manufi al-Maliki
(d. 939 AH), may Allah have mercy on him.
The study and critical edition of this work were undertaken according to a scholarly plan consisting of an introduction, two main chapters, a conclusion, and technical indexes. The introduction addresses the significance of the topic, the reasons for selecting it, previous studies, the scope of the research, the research plan, and its methodology.
The first chapter consists of two sections. The first section examines the author and comprises four topics: his name, lineage, birth, and upbringing; his teachers and students; his works and the scholars’ commendation of him; and his death, may Allah have mercy on him. The second section examines the book and consists of four topics: establishing the authenticity of the book’s title and its attribution to the author; the author’s sources in the book; the author’s methodology; and a description of the manuscript and selected samples from it.
The second chapter presents the critically edited text and includes the complete edited text of the book. The conclusion presents the most important findings and recommendations, followed by an index of sources and references.
One of the main findings is that the author relies primarily on the foundational tradition of Imam Abu Amr al-Basri and demonstrates particular attention to the practical dimension.
The study recommends searching for and examining the author’s manuscripts, as this would highlight his scholarly status and contributions to various fields of knowledge
