Abstract
This study aimed to identify the challenges encountered by teachers in teaching Arabic speaking skills to Indonesian students at the Islamic and Arabic Sciences Institute in Surabaya, Indonesia. Data was collected through a questionnaire administered to 18 teachers. Findings revealed significant challenges arising from the educational environment, followed by the students, the curriculum, and the instructor. Female teachers reported experiencing more difficulties compared to their male counterparts, particularly in teaching speaking skills. However, no significant gender differences were observed in challenges related to the curriculum, learning environment, or teacher factors. To address these challenges, the study recommends fostering daily Arabic usage, enhancing in-class and out-of-class language activities, improving teaching resources, and providing dedicated spaces for language practice.
