Abstract

Abstract: The current study aimed to determine the requirements for empowering and building the capabilities of workers with cases of autism spectrum disorder, through the requirements (cognitive, skill, training, value, and enabling environment), where the descriptive survey method was used in the manner of comprehensive inventory of a sample of (73) workers at the National Center. For autism in Muscat, a questionnaire prepared by the researcher was applied to them, and descriptive and analytical statistics were used to analyze the study data, The results of the quantitative study revealed that there is a need for knowledge related to interventions that are not supported by solid scientific research and wrong therapeutic concepts. To avoid these practices is an ethical duty, as 91.6% supported this, and 92.52% saw the need to acquire the skill of holding workshops with specialists to learn methods. Rehabilitation of cases of autism spectrum disorder, while 93.6% believed that practices that are not based on scientific evidence should be avoided when working with cases of autism spectrum disorder, and 91.4% believed that exchanging scientific research and ideas related to autism with other institutions as an environmental requirement contributes to improving work performance. However, a percentage of 91.2% said that there are some obstacles to meeting these requirements, such as some families’ urgency for quick results in rehabilitating their children with autism spectrum disorder. The study recommended the need to refine the skills and expertise of those working in the field of autism spectrum disorder with practices based on scientific evidence such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) and Eclectic treatment.
