Abstract
Study Summary
The study aimed to identify the dimensions of environmental awareness from the perspective of experts, in addition to developing a proposed unit to enhance environmental awareness in light of the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative among sixth-grade female students.
To achieve the objectives, the descriptive method was used, and a questionnaire was constructed as a data collection tool. It was administered to a random sample of 149 experts specializing in curricula and teaching methods, as well as experts in teaching the Life and Family Skills course from the Ministry of Education and the National Center for Curricula.
The study reached several findings regarding the dimensions of environmental awareness. The results showed that:The environmental attitudes dimension ranked first in importance, with the indicator “the desire to protect the environment from pollution” occupying the top position, The environmental knowledge dimension ranked second, with the indicator “knowledge of the concept of afforestation and its importance” coming first within this dimension, The environmental behavior dimension came third, with the indicator “proper disposal of food waste” ranking first.
In addition, a proposed unit was developed to enhance environmental awareness in the Life and Family Skills textbook for sixth-grade students (first semester) in light of the Saudi Green Initiative, according to the importance levels of environmental awareness dimensions that should be included in the curriculum from the experts’ and specialists’ perspectives.
